About This Museum / このサイトについて
Ethnic Museum is an independently operated online museum built around a private collection assembled over many years. It preserves and presents objects that were worn, used, treasured, and passed down through generations by the peoples of Tibet and neighboring regions, as well as the ethnic minorities of South China, Southeast Asia, and the Himalayas.
Ethnic Museumは、個人が長年にわたり収集してきたコレクションを基礎とする、独立運営のオンラインミュージアムです。チベットおよび周辺地域、ならびに中国南部・東南アジア・ヒマラヤ地域の少数民族が、実際に身につけ、使用し、祈りの中で受け継いできた品々を収蔵・紹介しています。
The Collection / コレクション
At the heart of the collection are Tibetan antiques, including ancient dZi beads, Luk Mik, agate, turquoise, coral, amber, and Pema Raka. The collection also includes ornaments, garments, ritual objects, Buddhist images, sculpture, and everyday objects associated with peoples such as the Yao, Hmong, Naga, Akha, Karen, Yi, Zhuang, Dong, and Lisu.
コレクションの中心は、古代ジービーズ、ルックミ、瑪瑙、トルコ石、珊瑚、琥珀、ペマラカなどのチベタンアンティークです。さらに、ヤオ族、モン族、ナガ族、アカ族、カレン族、イ族、チワン族、トン族、リス族などの装身具、衣装、儀礼具、仏像、彫像、民具を収蔵しています。
Our Approach / 私たちの姿勢
Our interest extends beyond rarity or visual beauty. We look closely at materials, techniques, signs of use, provenance, and cultural context. Wherever possible, we carefully distinguish objects made and used within living traditions from later reproductions and pieces produced primarily for the tourist market.
私たちが大切にしているのは、品物の希少性や美しさだけではありません。素材、技法、使用痕、伝来、文化的背景を丁寧に見つめ、後世に作られた複製品や観光向けの品と、実際の暮らしや儀礼の中で使われてきた品を、可能な限り慎重に見分けて紹介することを心がけています。
Every stitch in a garment, every worn surface on an ornament, and every trace of handling on a ritual object records the passage of human time. Our purpose is to present these works not merely as decoration or antiques, but as witnesses to culture, belief, and everyday life.
衣装の一針、装身具の摩耗、儀礼具に残る手の跡には、それを作り、身につけ、使い、守ってきた人々の時間が刻まれています。品物を単なる装飾品や骨董品としてではなく、文化・信仰・暮らしの記憶を伝える存在として紹介することが、このサイトの目的です。
Regions and Cultures / 対象地域と文化
The collection focuses on Tibet, the Himalayas, South China, Southeast Asia, and Northeast India. Recognizing that people, materials, and ideas have always moved across modern borders, we consider not only individual ethnic traditions but also the cultural relationships that connect these regions.
主な対象地域は、チベット、ヒマラヤ、中国南部、東南アジア、インド北東部です。現在の国境を越えて人々が移動し、交易し、文化を伝えてきた歴史を踏まえ、品物を一つの国や民族名だけに閉じ込めず、地域間のつながりにも目を向けています。
Looking Ahead / これから
We do not currently operate a permanent physical gallery or museum space, but we hope to create opportunities for the collection to be viewed in person in the future. Until then, this online museum will continue to present each object—and the stories behind it—with as much care and detail as possible.
現在は常設の実店舗や展示施設を設けていませんが、将来、収蔵品を実際にご覧いただける機会をつくることを目指しています。それまでは、このオンラインミュージアムを通じて、一点一点の細部と、その背後にある物語をできる限り丁寧にお伝えしていきます。
